Relaxation massage

Relaxation is an important part of any treatment. For stress or insomnia relaxation is the treatment of choice.

It's possible to get a massage almost anywhere these days, but a registered massage therapist should deliver outstanding results even in a relaxation massage, because they apply strategy and techniques that are designed to truly relax you.

A relaxation massage targets the body's parasympathetic nervous system, which stimulates your body's natural healing mechanisms.

A massage therapist follows the principles of massage: use direction to encourage blood flow towards the heart, relax superficial tissues before going deep, begin peripheral to a target area before going central to it, etc.

Depending on the reason why you require a relaxation massage, the therapist will apply an appropriate strategy:

  • If you are anxious or upset relaxation massage can calm the nerves, and relax the muscles.
  • If you suffer regional pain syndromes massage will ease the nervous system's pain signals, and minimize the discomfort of inflammation.

Our approach

We use very high quality lotion or oil. Oil remains longer on the skin than lotion, and generates more heat under the hand. These qualities make it the better choice to prepare superficial body tissue-draw nourishing blood superficially, and calm superficial tissue-- before addressing deeper tissue.

Alternately, lotion moisturizes and absorbs more readily into the skin, which provides less glide and allows us to target tissues that require a slower release.

We employ a variety of other techniques (hydrotherapy, breathing technique) to direct your thoughts inward and to release physical manifestations of distress.

The setting at Ashby & Associates Massage Therapy is conducive to peace and relaxation. We welcome all those who need to relax. Call today.
